MindGate.com Corporation

This page describes our company and some of the key people
...so you can know a little about us.

Incorporated

MindGate is a privately held Corporation of Tennessee that was formed in 1986 as a consulting company for SDI. In 1990, we turned our attention to commercial software for the Mac. From the introduction of our first Mac product in June 1992, to the new version of PrintChef in September 1997, to PrintChef Pro v. 3.0 for Mac/Win (November 1999), we have been dedicated to the production of top quality, friendly, and extremely powerful software.

This philosophy has resulted in stable and well-designed products that typically serve for multiple OS releases without change. Even companies like Adobe and Apple have recently adopted MindGate's software design architectures for page-on-paper layout in printing.

Location
We are located in the quiet hills of Tennessee and have worked for high-technology programs like those in Huntsville's SDC (strategic defense command) and NASA's space and rocket center, and for Tullahoma's Arnold Air Force base. And, since we are also located 20 miles from Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, we know how to play as hard as we work!

Founder
Our founder and president is Dr. Lawrence M. Beyl, a physicist turned programmer, who in 1982 was the designer of a device-independent printing system that was remarkably similar to PostScript. Our success is largely due to Dr. Beyl's (and the company's) philosophy of bullet-proof programming and attention to detail.

Testing & Support
MindGate is also one of the few software companies that actually has a testing lab to test our software-- and more importantly, we test it! Our software stability and lack of bugs is largely due to Martha Scarbury, Vice President of Software Development-- an individual with an uncanny ability to break any piece of software.

The Team
Although our team is growing every day, we could not get along without certain key individuals-- like Kristin for help systems, Jeanne for shipping, Michael for our young look at things, and Caula for critiques.

The Board
Although MindGate is privately held, we have drawn from a list of nearly 70 investors to create a Board that looks to the future-- Larry Beyl (chairman), Randy Ferguson (council), Wayne Horton, Caula Beyl, and Martha Scarbury.

We stand by our products
Even with these formidable talents, occasionally a bug will get by us or we may miss a market opportunity! And, this is where MindGate stands apart from other companies-- we listen to our users! And, unlike other software companies, MindGate distributes most of its upgrades free-of-charge... that's because we don't expect you to pay for our mistakes or oversights!

Product History
MindGate has presented superb printing solutions for almost 14 years. The PrintChef family of products works with B/W, color, high-end, and low-end printers and RIPs, and can be activated from any application that prints. PrintChef's "print recipes" or "print recipes" are solutions for everyday printing like variable data & image, booklets, impositions, security, logging, bar codes, watermarks, and so much more. Our design is so robust, that if we don't have your printing solution, you can always design your own with PrintChef's "Print Designer".

Our first product was LaserMerge® (1992), which has now been superseded by PrintChef®. We will release a Mac/Win version of PrintChef on a CD-ROM late 1999. And, as usual, you will find that these products will be completely compatible with all of our other products, and across different computers.

In 1997, we signed an exclusive agreement with Colorbus to distribute PrintChef Pro as PrintStorm™. With licensing restrictions lifted in January 1999, MindGate is now actively distributing PrintChef, PrintChef Pro, and PrintChef Lite, in addition to seeking new OEM partners for the future.

In July 2000, we released PrintChef 3 for Windows 95/98 on the Print-to-Mail accessory which allowed HP 4000 and 4050 printers to use the print-to-mail accessory with Stamps.com electronic postage support. In, December 2000, we released PrintChef 3 for Windows 95, 98, NT4; February 2001, we released PrintChef for Me, 2000; and, in March 2002, we released PrintChef for all Windows operating systems including XP.

In the first quarter of 2002, we expect to release over 15 plug-ins to the new PrintChef 3 architecture. These products will carry forward our commitment to high-quality printing solutions...

At MindGate, printing is a science-- that is why our products work with every application, every printer, and every RIP.
