Doorways arrange QuickBook's output
for pressure-seal

The PrintChef Effects driver generates prints using a proprietary technology that allows Data Doorway to locate and identify text from any application's print. With the Data Doorway extractor tightly integrated into the PrintChef engine as a standard component, PrintChef can easily access the contents of any page.

This allows PrintChef to literally copy one part of the printed page to another. In fact, this is how PrintChef interacts with the pressure-seal output to move the address from an accounting, invoice, or letter print to the required address location on the fold-and-seal form. And, with a "print recipe" containing 2 doorways, PrintChef can easily extract both the Recipient and Sender addresses and then place them on the page.

The bottom line is that PrintChef is designed to support up to 128 doorways simultaneously, and this allows PrintChef to extract tons of information from any application's print and then

rearrange that output on the printed page to your design. The pressure-seal solution is a simple example of this process.

Another example is how PrintChef uses the Data Doorway technology to automatically activate Stamps.com's server, send it addresses for electronic postal indicia generation, and then intercept and integrate the Stamps.com output with the pressure-seal output, all ending up neatly folded and sealed by a pressure-seal machine.

Another example is how PrintChef modifies a QuickBook paystub print, to move the withholding section to the top of the page, the check to the middle of the page, and then extracts the address, return address, and other information to fit nicely onto a ready to mail paystub form.

Data Doorway has just opened the door for innovative and powerful small office printing solutions...
How to set up a Data Doorway for your own Application

STEP 1:
First-time Setup

Data Doorway™ is an integrated component of the PrintChef Effects driver, and works with all pressure-seal systems.

The pressure-seal solution comes with standard "print recipes" that direct PrintChef on how to execute the Data Doorway extractions and move the contents to the proper location on the mailer. These standard recipes are "stationery" for additional recipes that will work with specific address-generating applications.

One-Time Setup:
The process of creating a specialized "print recipe" for your favorite accounting, payroll, invoice, or other application follows:
  1. From your favorite application, choose the "Print" from the File menu,
  2. Choose the "PrintChef Effects" driver from the list of printers,
  3. Print the application's output to the PrintChef system.

STEP 2:
Changing Doors
into Data

The previous print will be used as a background matt for the layout of the Data Doorways.

Changing Doorways:
The modification of the "print recipe" to have its Data Doorways conform to the layout of your favorite application follows:
  1. Activate Data Doorway from the PrintChef menu on the Windows task bar.
  2. Open the print job using the "File" menu.
  3. With the print job now in Data Doorway, scroll to find the rubylith colored frames. These are the Data Doorways (each pressure-seal recipe will have at least one doorway) that will extract data (text) for PrintChef to use.
  4. From the Window menu, choose "Show Data Window" (this activates a small window that shows exactly what will be extracted from by a doorway).
  5. Use the mouse to move or resize a doorway and then view the data that will be extracted to be sure it is correct.
  6. From the File menu, choose "Save and Exit".
Your saved "print recipe" is now ready to use with your application, and as long as your application's printed layout does not change, this print recipe will continue to work day-after-day, and year-after-year generating reliable pressure-seal output.

STEP 3:
Normal Printing

The setting up of an application for compatibility with PrintChef and pressure-seal is done only once for each layout. The PrintChef print recipe then carries all the information on how to change the printed page into a format that will work with the pressure-seal system.

PrintChef plugins for pressure-seal is equipped with print recipes to shrink a letter page 85% or 90%, center it on a pressure-seal form, and then print either an address block with a place stamps here rectangle, or an address block generated by Stamps.com.

PrintChef plugins come with sophisticated print recipes that can reorganize the output of QuickBooks paystub prints to hide the paycheck in the center panel of the print-and-seal form.

These print recipes will be used daily to generate the printed output exactly as it must look to satisfy the Post Office, the fold-and-seal layout forms, and the requirements of Stamps.com for indicia layout.

Daily Printing Steps:
While all of this sound complex, once you have set up your tailored print recipe for pressure-seal with your application, daily printing is as easy as:
  1. From your favorite application, choose the "Print" from the File menu.
  2. Choose the "PrintChef Effects" driver from the list of printers and print.
  3. From the popup PrintChef Print Control dialog, select from a list of Print Recipes tailored to your specifications.
  4. Click "OK" and then "Print" from the PrintChef Print Control dialog.

The simplicity of PrintChef for pressure-seal generation, or for that matter the complexity of other features you choose, is soley up to you. You are the master of PrintChef for your pressure-seal system...
